Eighth Step

Now that we have everything fully up and running at Portfolio.Werk.Baby, we want to add a few other subdomains to help organize things.

Below is a map of the whole domain. Some of these records have been added already, and some will be added during this step. Not all of these need to be added to your site. They are merely a selection of some of the most useful apps I have found, with a variety of differnt setups. So that by the end of this training module, you should be able to add any third party app with a "custom domain" option to somewhere on your website specialapp.yoursite.com.

Domain Map

• Werk.Baby

  • Handled by short.io. Contains two numerical "A" records that are automatically added during setup.

• www.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a "CNAME" record that is handled by short.io. Must be added manually. There is no website parked here, it is just used by short.io to handle forwarding.

• QR.Werk.Baby and/or Links.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by short.io and Is added automatically during setup. Used for sharing QR codes and links.

• Portfolio.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by google sites. It needs to be added manually. This is the "landing page" so the settings in short.io are confirmed to forward Werk.Baby here.

• Training.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by google sites. It needs to be added manually. It is linked to from the landing page in google sites, and from Werk.Baby/training using short.io.

• Shop.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by squarespace and Is added automatically during setup. Contains a shopping cart that is built in squarespace.

• Blog.Werk.Baby and/or VIP.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by Blogger, for a PG or spicy blog. (Can be password protected.) Record is added automatically during setup with Blogger.

• Clients.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by google sites. It needs to be added manually. Site is password protected and can only be accessed by accounts that have been added.

• Backup.Werk.Baby

  • Contains a CNAME record that is handled by google sites. It needs to be added manually. It is a full copy of the main website. If there is a problem with the main site, short.io can be used to instantly forward Werk.Baby here.
